 Question Types – CAT exam includes both Multiple Choice Questions and Non MCQs (also known as TITA – Type In The Answer questions). In MCQs candidates must select the correct answer from a set of provided options. It is important to note that incorrect answers in MCQs occur in negative marking. TITA questions require candidates to type the numerical answer directly. Unlike MCQs there is no negative marking for TITA questions offering an opportunity to earn full marks.

 Marking Scheme – CAT exam gives the +3 and -1 marking scheme for MCQs. For each correct answer 3 marks are awarded and for each incorrect answer 1 mark is deducted. There is no negative marking for  TITA questions candidates receive +3 marks for correct answers.

 Sectional Time Limit – Each section has a time bound of 40 minutes. Candidates cannot switch between sections until the time for a particular section is over.
